The First Ayurvedic Practice I Ever Tried Was…

Nourish Note

Before I had the Ayurvedic self-care routine I have now, I used to sometimes resist starting self-care habits I knew would help me feel better. I’d read about them, learn everything I could and push them off — telling myself I’d get to them someday.

But when someday never came, I realized I’d been waiting for the “right” time to start — and that wasn’t getting me anywhere. Actually doing it was what mattered.

The habit that started my journey into Ayurveda was an incredibly simple one: drinking warm water with lemon in the morning.

The moment I tried it for the first time, I remember thinking, "How could something this small possibly make a difference?"

When I finally took action by squeezing a slice of lemon into a mug of warm water, it didn’t feel particularly life-changing. But I knew it was a missing piece in my morning routine.

Every morning, I found myself looking forward to drinking warm water with lemon. I noticed I felt a little more awake and grounded than on the mornings without it.

Eventually, lemon water stopped feeling like something I “should” do and became something I naturally reached for as part of my morning routine.

I kept repeating it — even with changes in my schedule at work or while traveling — and that's what made it stick.

And once I started to see that it was the repetition itself that mattered, I began noticing it everywhere — not just with lemon water, but with every small self-care practice I'd been overthinking.

Those tiny but consistent actions, done over and over again, are what shape how you feel and show up in your day.

I’d love to know if you've had a similar experience like I did with lemon water. What’s one small self-care habit you keep meaning to start but haven’t made consistent yet? Hit reply and tell me.
