You know that feeling when it’s 9:30 p.m., you’re exhausted, but your brain is still doing cartwheels?
That’s me when I fall out of rhythm with my self-care routine.
I call it “tired but wired”—where your body’s begging for sleep, but your mind is still spinning.
Ayurveda calls this vata season—ruled by air and space—where the air is dry, the wind is swirling and your nervous system may be a little...extra. 🍁
As the days get shorter and the weather shifts, you might find yourself feeling more scattered, anxious or just plain restless. 🍂
What does all of this mean? It’s time to slow down, warm up and root yourself back into rhythm. 🫖
And it all starts with your evening routine.
The good news? You don’t need a total life overhaul to do this.
The Best Evening Routine to Balance Vata
What helps me again and again is returning to these simple Ayurvedic evening rituals that calm my nervous system and bring me back to myself.
- Power down early. Consistency is key to keeping vata in balance. Aim to turn off screens by 9 p.m. (Or start with 10 p.m. and adjust by 15-minute increments every few days.)
- Try Abhyanga. Massage warm sesame oil into your skin, starting from your feet up. This not only calms your nerves, but also nourishes dry skin (so common this time of year).
- Warm it up. A warm bath or shower after Abhyanga can offer just the grounding you need.
- Sip something soothing. Try my Golden Turmeric Milk recipe or chamomile lavender tea.
- Embrace simplicity. Three minutes of journaling, gentle stretching or mindful breathing can help bring you back into balance.
Evenings are your chance to hit the reset button—especially when everything around you feels like it’s moving too fast.
